2010 Composition
Contest
Open to composers of all nationalities. Three winners will
be awarded the following prizes:
1st Prize:
$250.00/ Publication by
Bachovich Music Publications • Recording on IronWorks
Percussion Duo CD • Performance by IronWorks
2nd Prize:
$125.00/ Possible Publication
by Bachovich Music Publications • Recording on IronWorks
Percussion Duo CD • Performance by IronWorks
3rd Prize:
$75.00/ Possible Recording on
IronWorks Percussion Duo CD • Performance by IronWorks
Deadline: All entries must be received by
May 15th,
2010. The winners will
be contacted by June 30th, 2010.
Entry Fee: A check, money order or PayPal for $30.00 for
the first application. Composers may submit more than one
score with a separate fee of $15.00 per additional score.
Checks should be made payable to CSULB Music Department.
Eligibility & Guidelines:
1.) Composers must submit 2 copies of the full score and 1
set of parts for each entry. PDFs will be accepted however
the entry fee must be sent separately and received before
the piece will be entered into consideration. Composers
must complete and sign Entry Form.
2.) Audio recordings and/or MIDI files of the piece(s) are
not required but highly encouraged.
3.) All works submitted must be unpublished and, to the
best of the composer’s knowledge, original works. No
arrangements will be accepted.
4.) There is no time limit on the pieces.
5.) Instrumentation may include standard drums/orchestral
percussion, mallet percussion, world percussion
(Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, African, Middle Eastern, etc.),
Steel drums (tenor and/or double second steel drums), and
any homemade/”found” percussion as long as the instruments
and their construction is fully explained in the score.
Also, any extended or unusual techniques must be fully
explained in the score.
6.) Works with audio accompaniment (sequenced tracks,
computer generated audio, etc.) may be submitted as long as
the audio tracks are included in the entry packet and/or
easily produced by the performers on current technology.
7.) The complete application packet MUST include: 2 copies
of the representative score, 1 set of parts, entry form,
bio and contact information of the composer, and entry fee.
8.) All entries not meeting these requirements will be
rejected.
9.) The winners will be selected by the Ironworks
Percussion Duo (Dr. Dave Gerhart and Axel Clarke) and
Andrew Beall (Owner, Bachovich Music Publications). All
decisions will be final. The judges reserve the right to
award no winner if no piece meets standards.
10.) Scores and recordings will not be returned. All
entries will go into the CSULB Percussion Library where
they may be performed in the future by IronWorks or on
student recitals. Composers will be notified if their
pieces are performed in the future and will be provided
with an audio recording of their work from the concert.
